NFL Monday recap - week #5

Pittsburgh plays tonight so I don't have comments on their game this week. Hopefully they play so well I have nothing to comment on during the game too!

Last week's theme was all about missed kicks. This week was all about interceptions. One after the other was thrown even by no pick Aaron Rogers.

Other:

• I suppose I should talk about the illegal batting of the pass out of the end zone by Indianapolis on Monday night, but frankly we all know the ref &^%^ up. He obviously needed glasses or a a rules refresher course. I think its more the latter as everyone seemed perplexed on it all until they googled the rules.
• In a discussion regarding DeMarco Murray's decision to move from Dallas to Philadelphia the NFL Fox Pregame Show guys had a lot of great things to say about moving from one team to another and about agents. "Negotiations go forward and all of sudden you say things...you catch yourself in a corner and once you're in a corner like he found himself in pride gets in the way and therefore you make a bad decision," Bradshaw said in explaining why these players leave teams where they are a better fit and go to teams where they aren't. Howie Long chimed in agreeing with Bradshaw saying that overall he would have preferred to play well for the money instead of taking a wad of money to play poorly. Michael Strahan piped in blaming the agents, "A lot of that makes sense, but I think when it comes to agents in a lot of ways its about the financial end. They figure this guy's an athlete he can get there he can make it work. And it doesn't work out that way." Long countered back with, "I want to play well and justify the money that I'm making." Amen, Howie, but you're a dying breed of players that think that. In Long's, and especially in Bradshaw's, day the money wasn't thrown at players the way it is today. Playing well and winning for your city and team actually meant something back then when football was still a competitive sport. That isn't the case today. Today it's a money making job and a guy familiar with that, Jimmy Johnson, made faces while the guys were discussing this until finally he could butt in laughing with, "And you're right," he said shrugging, "what's two or three million dollars?"
• Then in another segment Jimmy Johnson did a 180 going off on the the Seattle Seahawks for getting "selfish". "You look at half a dozen players wanting my money. Players holding out. You look at a celebratory quarterback walking the red carpet with a starlet on his arm. Marshawn Lynch doesn't even talk to the medium but he's found the time to do commercials." WHAT? Jimmy make up your mind.
• How great was it to see Cooper Manning, Eli and Peyton's brother, who was unable to continue his football career due to spinal stenosis? He is now one of the broadcast team of NFL Fox Kickoff which I've yet to see, but will now have to record just to get to know the eldest Manning brother. Especially after the clips they showed of him interviewing players. Hilarious!
• How about sixty forty year old Matt Hasselbeck winning back up quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts? He was (and still is) battling some bacteria infection on Thursday night and getting IV's before, during, and after the game. He might not know it, but he's a leader for all of the older players who are being forced out of the game before their time.
• The Miami Dolphins fired their coach Joe Philbin this past week after he went 1-3 this season. I say good riddance. The man should have been fired a couple of years ago especially after the bullying issues. He obviously can't control a locker room.
• After Eagles Sam Bradford faked a hand off to DeMarco Murray, he threw to Josh Huff who eluded Saints defenders and ran to the end zone untouched. Instead of running in for the touchdown he got cocky and flipped instead. The same thing happened last week with another team. Even the Steelers Antonio Brown has done it. Stop that crap! Your're a football player not a gymnast. Run into the end zone like you are suppose to and accept your teammate's congrats humbly. Too many times players lose the ball doing stupid stuff like that.
• Not only did Tampa Bay's running back Doug Martin help out my fantasy team, but he helped out his own team for the win. I cheered on the couch with the Condog because the two of us thought long ago that Martin would be a hell of a running back for the Bucs.
• I am impressed with Washington's Kirk Cousin's arm. Well, except for the interception in overtime to lose the game, but otherwise he looked sharp and snappy. His passes are powerful with a beautiful spiral and he seems to be a competent leader.
• Seattle's offensive line did the worst job in protecting their quarterback Russell Wilson. The poor man went down five times, and I think I saw everyone of them. The defense couldn't hold on to the lead and Cincinnati was able to sneak right back in again and win the game in overtime. 
• At halftime of the Arizona/Detroit game in Michigan the fans began booing loudly as the team went into the locker room down 28-7. Really? Because nothing makes you want to come back out and kick ass than a stadium full of fans that have no faith in you. I get it. The Lions have sucked, but I also know that you paid the big bucks to see the game so obviously you believe in them. Stop booing.
• Congrats to Peyton Manning 77,705 passing yards for the all time leader spot in regular and post season passing Brett Favre.
