NFL Monday morning recap week 10

Since the Steelers played on Thursday, Tom and I went to Tampa to see Darcy's beau in his fall play. It was a funny show, and the singing was incredible! We didn't know the beau could sing! Wow! It was fun, and then I came home to enjoy a cocktail while hubby cooked dinner, and I watched the recordings of the games. A nice Sunday.

Other:

  • Just like in the Steelers game, this week brought more of the messing with the quarterback enough that his teammates have to defend him. This time it was Chicago's Trubisky who ran, got out of bounds, and then was shoved for what, good measure? Detroit's Jared Davis did the shoving, which resulted in a penalty, and he shoved Trubsky into another player, a Lion player, which in turn stopped the game for an injury timeout. Come on! I get that you're frustrated, but pull yourself together and take it out on the opposition by playing better.
  • New Orleans and Drew Brees weren't content to let the Steelers be the talk of the week. Brees threw three touchdowns, was 22-25 for two hundred and sixty-five yards, and moved ahead of Brett Favre as second-best on the career list. The Saints beat the Bengals 51-14.
  • Sideline reporter Pam Oliver reported after halftime of the New Orleans and Cincinnati game. She sprinted off the field to catch Bengals coach Marvin Lewis despite, as the men in the booth said, "wearing impractical shoes." My first thought was, why is she wearing impractical shoes on the sideline of a football game? My second thought, after the booth mentioned Oliver as a Hall of Famer track star and the cameraman gave us a view of her high heeled boots, was why is she wearing impractical shoes as an NFL sideline reporter? But then I decided Pam Oliver is a badass, and Marvin Lewis didn't stand a chance.
  • You think the Lions were missing Golden Tate?
  • And here come the Browns. Nick Chubbs was on fire with a 92-yard touchdown run, finishing with 176 yards for the day, and the Falcons didn't know what hit them. Matt Ryan was totally off-kilter on his throws while Mayfield was clearly more comfortable. The Browns offense was grooving alongside Mayfield, and just maybe this team is gonna be one we have to keep an eye on for the last six games.
  • What was going with Da Bears kicker? Cody Parkey missed two field goals and two extra points, hitting the uprights on all four misses? Yikes. This has been the year of the off-footed kickers.
  • Cracked me up that the Bucs coach Dirk Koetter let it be known at his post-conference that he called all of the offensive plays of the game. Yeah, after a team scores only 3 points, is that something you'd want to admit? Bring up at your conference?
  • The Jags tried to make a comeback but fell short on a questionable offensive play that went to the booth review. Ole Cara agreed with CBS' NFL rules analyst Gene Steratore who said that ball was coming out of Rashad Green Sr.' hands. Clearly. A collective whoosh of relief went through Lucas Oil Stadium.
  • And how about the Colts tight end Eric Ebron who scored three touchdowns? Also, the year for tight ends.
  • Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones took himself out of last week's game, so the team spanked him disciplined him by making him sit out of the first half. Let me get this straight. A guy decides to sit out of the game last week, so his punishment is to sit out? Someone explain that logic to me, please. Am I missing something?
  • Whoa. Has Seahawks kicker Janikowski always been that beefy? Holy big guy! Why would Pete Carroll use this guy to try one of his off the wall coaching techniques? Seattle opted to try an onside kick, and that backfired, giving the Rams great field position and a field goal.
  • But the Rams defense made the real difference in that great game. They made Russell Wilson work his tail off. They pressured him all day, and he had to scurry, roll, shift, twist, and run like hell. They just ran out of time.
  • Really? Touchdown balls, which the players have to pay for, kept going to Floyd Merriweather, who had ringside seats on the field. Seriously? We couldn't find some kid in the stands?
