I have lived now in Florida almost longer than I lived in Indiana. I am acclimated to the warmth and the sun and the trees that are rarely bare. I was worried before I left my cozy 80 degree weather state to travel to the frozen tundra of northern Indiana. I was sure I would freeze. I pictured myself wandering around the house wrapped in layers upon layers of cloth with a blanket around my shoulders. I shopped before I flew out, purchasing long, thick pants and sweaters that I will never wear at home. I borrowed a long, wool coat to protect me from whatever weather I might encounter, and I ate more to build up fat just in case none of the outer wear worked.
Then I arrived in Indiana. It was in the 50's the first two days and some of the trees still had beautiful, fall leaves clinging to its branches. It was gorgeous and amazing, and when the temperatures dropped and fall quickly turned into winter, I embraced it. I put a stocking cap on my head and went outside and breathed in the coldness, the beauty, and the difference of the states that I have called home.
Susan: "You can do this because you get to get on an airplane and leave it for palm trees, heat, and sunshine."
