NC Campus Visit#1

When we are in the NC Triangle Tom insists on reliving his college days by hauling us through the NC State campus. It isn't the same campus, mind you, they have made a lot of changes in, cough, cough, thirty plus years, but he acts like he knows where he is going and probably, in the three years our kid has lived in NC, he might by now.

The "new campus" is very modern, sleek, and fitting for an engineering school. This was the first time I saw the older section of campus. I liked that better, but NC State seems to be out with the old and in with the new.

Madison had class on Friday and then her end-of-the-year evaluation so had time for Tom to reminisce I wanted to see where he roomed his freshman year, but he got lost sidetracked and ended up elsewhere. It turned out to be a lovely park where we hiked over a mile, and I pretended I was as good a photographer as all the other people in my life.

We fed the kid, took her supply shopping, and then tried to buy her shoes. She was living in her shower shoes, for god's sake. Tom, thinking he was on a roll with his NC State tour, figured this would be a breeze. Ha Ha. Dad's believing they can shop with daughters.

We lost him after fifteen minutes. Two hours later she had a pair of shoes that weren't perfect but were decent enough. We took her back to campus where she was on duty for L-DOC. Last Day of Class for UNC. Parties were in full swing both for students and...for locals interested in celebrating the students?

Madison was on duty from 8:00 p.m. to noon the following day so we hung out a bit in her dorm where Tom attempted to clean it like he does our living room, picking up dirty cups and throwing out the trash.

Eventually, we left her to her job and her finals studying and ended our night in our motel room where we made friends with the maintenance man who came to check out our hair dryer. It took the man two seconds by pushing a button. I made sure to let him know, by a whisper, that my hubby had spent considerable time working on the dryer.

Me: "He went to NC State for Engineering."
Him: "And on that note, I'm outta here."
